In 2013, we were approached by a local beekeeper we met at the Farmer’s Market, who said we needed bees to pollinate the lovely Luffa flowers. We learned that bees love Luffa and a delicious tasting honey results. Therefore, the journey into bees began. We currently work with Donny Johns of Nature’s Nectar LLC. Donny manages our bees and is our mentor.
We are a certified “Bee Friendly” farm and also a Monarch Butterfly Waystation number 11382. We promote growing Luffa and other bee plants to help the bees. #Luffatoo is to include Luffa plants on plant lists to grow for bees.
Through our journey, we have learned of the wonderful benefits Luffa has for bees. Luffa will flower all the way up to the first frost so it is an important food source for bees especially during late Summer and Fall when flower sources can be scarce. We are learning more everyday about the benefits and connections of bees and Luffa. We plan to add more interesting information soon!
